With glistening feathering accentuating their ears, throat, underside, and majestic tail plume, the miniature long-haired Dachshund represents the height of canine refinement. Renowned for their exceptionally gentle, affectionate demeanor and lap-sized stature (under 11 lbs), our mini long-hairs are loyal cuddle companions that adore snuggling on rainy Pacific Northwest afternoons.

Long haired dachshund puppy with flowing silky feathering

The Mellowest of the Three Coats

Historically developed by crossbreeding smooth Dachshunds with German Spaniels and English Setters, long-haired doxies inherited a docile, gentle, eager-to-please temperament that makes them unparalleled cuddle companions.

Temperament: Deeply affectionate, calm house manner.

Low-Shedding & Soft Fiber

Unlike short-haired dogs whose stiff hairs pierce fabric, long-haired Dachshund hair gathers in soft tumbleweeds that are effortlessly swept or brushed away. Regular combings keep their fur silky and clean.

Grooming commitment: 5–10 minutes 3 times per week.

Breathtaking Color Varieties

Long coats showcase rich color gradations—from shaded English creams with dark ebony fringes, to rich chocolate & tans, shimmering silver dapples, and deep mahogany reds.

Specialty: Shaded cream and chocolate lines.

Coat Care & Preservation

How to Maintain that Flowing Silky Coat

A long-haired Dachshund's coat develops in stages: fuzzy down during puppyhood giving way to flowing silky guard hairs around 7–10 months, with full adult feathering appearing between 18 and 24 months. Never shave their double coat, as it insulates them from both winter cold and summer heat.

Behind the Ears & Armpits:Focus gentle comb passes in these friction areas where soft tufts can tangle.
Paw Pad Fringes:Trim excessive fur between the foot pads to ensure solid traction on indoor flooring.
